The Moose

The Moose is the largest deer, stamding nearly 6 feet (2 meters) at the shoulder and weighing up to 1,000 pounds (450 kg).
The moose is common sight along the waterways and lakes in the nothern pine forests that border the arctic tundra, from Alaska, Canada,, and northern Europe across to Russia. Their great size and fur allow them to live through the cold, snowy winters.
The young moose is born in the spring and spends a year with his mother. The mother provides protections from predetors such as wolves and bears.
The moose eats tender stems and fallen leaves and bark;aquatic plants.
Moose uaually found alone, although small groups do occur when food is plentful. At this time the males are fighting each other for the females.
